📄 Target Frame Construction Guide

Build a Simple Portable Target Frame

A basic frame constructed with 2x4 lumber is a cheap and easy way to support your turning target.

Key points:

  • Our system is easily mounted on a top and bottom pair of horizontal 2x4s mounted with 4ft of vertical space between them.
  • This simple example uses our optional kit for folding feet.

Tools and Material

We will assume you can cut the 2x4s to length. The lenghts listed below are what we normally use.

Tools:

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Pencil
  • Optional: Square, Glue

Material:

  • 2x4 Lumber

    • (2) 6.5 feet long for vertical
    • (2) 3 feet long for horizontal
  • Folding Foot Kit

    • (4) Precut black support foot
    • (4) Locking Hinges
    • Phillips Screws
💡

Tip: This target frame is designed to support just one turning target. To build a frame that supports two or three, make the horizontal supports longer. Up to 12ft wide works, but wider spans may require additional support.

Measure 4 Feet Between the Horizontal 2x4s

For our turning target kits, we assume you will use a 2ft x 3ft target backer and 4ft of vertical space between the supports. You can easily do something else if you prefer.

Screw the hinge to the foot as shown

  • It fits in the precut pocket for alignment
  • Lever should face down as shown. Hinge will be flush with back of foot.
  • Important! Don't mount backwards.

⚠️

Mounting backwards causes hinge to stick out over the edge. This will make your frame unstable.

Screw the other side of hinge to the 2x4 leg.

  • Align flush with the bottom and edge of the 2x4.
  • Important! The feet are designed to touch the 2x4 as shown. This way, it will brace firmly against the 2x4 and keep your frame stable.
